Why Uber is changing how it shows its business to the public
Get ready to be surprised by a new feature that Uber is rolling out in the US, and it’s a welcome change for users who’ve always been able to find the app offline.
The feature will allow you to check in from anywhere with a smartphone, and you’ll be able to choose to view the Uber app on your desktop or laptop computer.
It also lets you share photos, videos and other content with other people in the app without having to use the app itself.
“With this new feature, you’ll no longer have to use a desktop or mobile app to view Uber’s mobile app,” a post on the company’s blog reads.
“You can simply look up what Uber is driving and see how much time you need to make it to your destination, and when you’re ready to make the trip, you can access the app from wherever you are, no matter where you are.”
Uber says it wants to make sure that its customers are using the app in a timely manner, but it’s also going to give them the option to make reservations through the app.
“When you are ready to reserve your ride, simply tap the Uber button in the top right corner of your screen and select ‘Make reservations’,” the company writes.
“Once you’re inside the Uber car, you will be able tap the reservation button to make your reservation.”
Once you tap the button, you get a notification that shows you the estimated time of the trip and when the next scheduled ride is available.
You can also tap the next available ride option at the bottom of the screen and confirm that you want to proceed with your reservation.
You’ll get a confirmation that you’ll have a ride in a matter of seconds.
If you don’t want to wait for a ride to arrive, you’re able to cancel your reservation at any time.
Uber also allows you to reserve a ride for the next 15 minutes if you want.
You have to be logged into the app, and if you’re already logged in, you won’t be able cancel a reservation while logged in.
When you’re not using the Uber mobile app, you have to log in to the app again to access it.
You should be able see your booking history on the home screen, and once you’ve made your reservation, you just tap the confirmation icon to confirm your choice to be able make the reservation.
When it comes to showing your reservation details, the app will tell you that you can share a photo, video or other content through the application, but the service will not be showing you any of that information.
“If you have a large number of people on a reservation, or you want a reservation that will have a variety of people available to ride, you must also select ‘Share’ as a way to share your reservations,” Uber writes.
If the feature does become available, the company says that you will not get an alert when you try to make a reservation from a different device than your computer, and that you won “not be able select a different vehicle.”
You’ll still be able access your Uber app from your desktop, tablet or smartphone.
This feature will be rolled out in cities like New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Miami and Atlanta, and Uber says that it will continue to expand to more cities over time.
